Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your reading skills while having fun playing games.
Materials and Prep
- Game board (can be homemade or printed)
- Game pieces (can be small toys or coins)
- Deck of sight word cards (can be made using index cards)
- Timer (can use a smartphone or kitchen timer)
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a good understanding of basic sight words and how to read them.
Activities

Word Race Game:
1. Set up a game board with a start and finish point.
2. Shuffle the sight word cards and place them face down in a pile next to the game board.
3. Take turns flipping a card and reading the word out loud.
4. Move your game piece forward one space for each word you read correctly.
5. The first player to reach the finish point wins!

Word Memory Game:
1. Lay out all the sight word cards face down on a table or floor.
2. Take turns flipping two cards over at a time.
3. If the two cards match (have the same word), keep them and take another turn.
4. If the cards do not match, flip them back over and it's the next player's turn.
5. Continue until all the cards have been matched.
6. The player with the most matched pairs wins!
