Objective
By the end of this lesson, TheMonkeywilly will understand the basic themes of teamwork and strategy through fun activities inspired by the game concepts from Squid Game, while also learning about fairness and safety in games.
Materials and Prep
- Open space for activities (like a backyard or living room)
- Chalk or tape to create game boundaries
- Colorful paper and markers for drawing game cards
- Timer (can use a phone or kitchen timer)
- Small toys or objects to represent game tokens
Before starting the lesson, ensure that TheMonkeywilly understands that while we will have fun with games, we will focus on being fair and safe, just like in real life!
Activities
-
Red Light, Green Light: This classic game will help TheMonkeywilly learn about listening and following directions. You will stand at one end of the space and call out "Green Light!" for TheMonkeywilly to run towards you, and "Red Light!" for them to stop. If they move during "Red Light!", they have to go back to the starting line!
-
Game Card Creation: Using colorful paper and markers, TheMonkeywilly can create their own game cards. They can draw different games or challenges they would like to play. This will help them use their imagination and think about what makes a game fun!
-
Teamwork Challenge: Create a fun obstacle course using furniture or toys. TheMonkeywilly can invite a family member to join in, and together they can navigate the course, learning the importance of teamwork and helping each other along the way!
Talking Points
- "Games are more fun when we play together. What do you think makes a game fun?"
- "In our games, it's important to listen and follow the rules. Why do you think rules are important?"
- "Can you think of a time when you helped a friend in a game? How did it make you feel?"
- "What do you think is more important: winning or having fun? Let's talk about it!"
- "If someone gets hurt or feels sad in a game, what can we do to make it better?"
- "What kind of games would you like to create? Let's use our imagination!"
