Objective
By the end of this lesson, students will have explored various exhibits at the Boston Museum of Science, learned interesting facts about science concepts, and developed their observation and note-taking skills using clipboards and pencils.
Materials and Prep
- Clipboards
- Pencils
- Printed scavenger hunt list (optional, can be created on-site)
- Knowledge of museum layout and key exhibits to explore
Activities
-
Scavenger Hunt: Create a simple scavenger hunt list with items or exhibits to find. For example, "Find a dinosaur skeleton" or "Look for a planet model." As they find each item, they can check it off and write a short note about what they saw.
-
Observation Notes: Encourage students to pick one exhibit that interests them the most. They can write down three things they learned about that exhibit and draw a quick sketch of it on their clipboard.
-
Question Time: Have students think of one question they want to answer during their visit. After exploring, they can write down the answer they found and share it with you.
Talking Points
- "What do you see in this exhibit? Can you describe it to me?"
- "Why do you think this is an important part of science?"
- "What was the most surprising thing you learned today?"
- "Can you think of how this science concept is used in real life?"
- "What question do you have about this exhibit? Let's find the answer together!"
- "How does this make you feel? Excited, curious, or maybe a little confused?"
- "What do you want to learn more about after visiting today?"
