Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will create a colorful heart card using finger paints, enhancing their creativity and fine motor skills while expressing love and friendship.
Materials and Prep
- Finger paints in various colors
- Blank cards (or thick paper cut into card size)
- Paper towels or wipes for cleaning fingers
- Apron or old shirt to protect clothes
Before starting, ensure the workspace is covered to prevent paint spills and have a plan for cleaning up afterward.
Activities
-
Finger Painting Hearts: Start by showing the student how to dip their fingers in the paint. They can press their fingers together to create heart shapes on the card. Encourage them to use different colors!
-
Color Mixing Fun: After creating the heart shape, let the student experiment with mixing colors on a separate piece of paper. Ask them what happens when they mix two colors together.
-
Decorating the Card: Once the heart is made, the student can add fun patterns or designs around the heart using their fingers. Encourage them to think of things they love and maybe incorporate those into their designs!
Talking Points
- "What colors do you see? Can you name them?"
- "Let’s make a heart! Can you show me how to press your fingers together?"
- "What happens when we mix blue and yellow? Let’s find out!"
- "What do you love? Can you draw it around the heart?"
