Objective

By the end of this lesson, Willow will have a better understanding of game design principles through the lens of Roblox. She will create her own simple game concept, learn about basic game mechanics, and understand how to engage players effectively.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to a computer or tablet with Roblox Studio installed
  • Notebook and pencil for brainstorming ideas
  • Access to the internet for research and inspiration
  • Optional: Roblox account for testing and sharing games

Before the lesson, ensure that Roblox Studio is downloaded and functioning properly. Familiarize yourself with the basic interface of Roblox Studio if you haven't already.

Activities

  • Brainstorming Session:

Willow will spend some time brainstorming ideas for her own Roblox game. She can think about different game genres, themes, and what kind of experiences she wants to create for players.

  • Game Design Document:

Willow will create a simple game design document outlining her game's concept, objectives, and main mechanics. This will help her organize her thoughts and plan her game effectively.

  • Building in Roblox Studio:

Willow will get hands-on by starting to build her game in Roblox Studio. She can create basic structures, landscapes, and characters, applying what she learned about game mechanics.

  • Playtesting:

Once she has a basic prototype, Willow will playtest her game. This will help her see what works well and what could be improved, giving her practical insights into game design.
