Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify colors, count to three, and improve their motor skills through engaging activities with LEGO Duplo blocks.
Materials and Prep
- LEGO Duplo blocks in various colors (red, blue, yellow, green)
- A flat surface for building (like a table or floor)
- Optional: A timer for fun races (can be a simple stopwatch on a phone)
Before starting, make sure the building area is safe and free from distractions. Arrange the LEGO Duplo blocks in a way that is easily accessible for the child.
Activities
- Color Sorting:
Ask the child to sort the blocks by color. For example, "Can you find all the red blocks? Let's put them together!" This helps them recognize and name colors.
- Counting Towers:
Build a tower with the child, counting each block as it is added. Say, "One, two, three! Look at our tall tower!" This encourages counting and motor skills.
- Color Match Game:
Place three colored blocks in front of the child and ask them to match a block to each color. Say, "Can you find the blue block and put it with the blue one?" This reinforces color recognition.
- Build a Shape:
Guide the child to build simple shapes (like a square or triangle) using the blocks. Say, "Let's make a triangle with three blocks! One, two, three!" This combines counting and motor skills.
Talking Points
- "What color is this block?"
- "Let's count together! One, two, three!"
- "Can you find another red block? Great job!"
- "Look, we're building a tower! How many blocks do we have?"
- "Wow! You made a triangle! That's so cool!"
