Polar Bear Snow Adventure!
Let's play in the pretend snow with our polar bear friends!
Activity Steps:
- Introduction (2 mins): Show the child the toy polar bear. Say, "Look! A polar bear! Brrr, polar bears live where it's very cold and snowy!" Make a shivering motion.
- Sensory Setup (3 mins): Present the bin filled with kinetic sand. "This is our special snow! Touch the snow. How does it feel? Is it soft?" Encourage the child to pat, squeeze, and explore the sand with their hands.
- Polar Bear Play (10-15 mins): Place the polar bear toys into the kinetic sand. "The polar bears are playing in the snow!" Demonstrate making footprints with the bears. Offer scoops and small cups. "Can you scoop the snow? Can the polar bear hide in the snow? Peek-a-boo!" Encourage the child to move the bears around, bury them slightly, and dig them out.
- Imaginative Story (Ongoing): Narrate simple actions. "The bear is walking... stomp, stomp, stomp! The bear is sleepy, let's make a snow bed (pat down sand). Shhh, night night bear." Ask simple questions like "Where is the little bear?"
- Optional Exploration: If using, add blue gems ('ice') or cotton balls ('snow drifts'). "Look, shiny ice! Soft snow!"
- Clean-up Song (2 mins): Sing a simple clean-up song while putting the bears and sand away together. "Clean up, clean up, everybody clean up!"
Tips for Fun:
- Keep it child-led! Let them explore the sand and bears in their own way.
- Use simple, repetitive language.
- Focus on the sensory experience and having fun together.
- Don't worry about making perfect shapes, just explore!
