Hello! Today we're going to learn a super fun counting rhyme called '1, 2, Buckle My Shoe'. Are you ready to count and move?
Warm-up: Wiggle Fingers (5 mins)
Let's warm up our counting fingers! Wiggle them high, wiggle them low. Now let's count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10!
Activity 1: Learning the Rhyme (10 mins)
Listen to the rhyme first. Then we'll say it together and do actions!
- 1, 2, Buckle my shoe; (Pretend to buckle shoe)
- 3, 4, Knock at the door; (Pretend to knock)
- 5, 6, Pick up sticks; (Pretend to pick up sticks)
- 7, 8, Lay them straight; (Pretend to lay sticks down)
- 9, 10, A big fat hen! (Flap arms like a chicken)
Let's try it together! Repeat several times, getting faster!
Activity 2: Number Hunt & Count (10 mins)
Look at these number cards (1-10). Can you find the number 2? What rhymes with 2 in our song? Shoe! Let's find the number 4. What rhymes with 4? Door!
Now, let's use our counting bears (or blocks). Can you count out 2 bears? 4 bears? 6 sticks (use craft sticks)? Up to 10!
Activity 3: Rhyme Time Match-up (5 mins)
I'll say a word from the rhyme, you tell me the rhyming word! Two - (Shoe!), Four - (Door!), Six - (Sticks!), Eight - (Straight!), Ten - (Hen!). Great job!
Activity 4: Picture Sequencing (5 mins)
Look at these pictures showing parts of the rhyme (buckling shoe, knocking door, picking sticks, laying straight, big fat hen). Can you put them in the right order like the song?
Activity 5: Craft - Decorate a Shoe! (10 mins)
Let's decorate a picture of a shoe! You can use crayons, glitter, or stickers. While we decorate, let's sing our rhyme again!
