Fun Day Explorer Adventure!
Let's go on an adventure right here at home! Today we'll explore movement, building, stories, and textures.
Warm-up: Wiggle Worms (5 minutes)
Let's get our bodies ready! Put on some fun music.
- Wiggle like a worm!
- Stretch up high like a tall tree!
- Bend down low to touch your toes (or knees)!
- Flap your arms like a bird!
Activity 1: Outdoor Explorer Obstacle Course (15 minutes)
(Can be adapted for indoors if needed)
Set up a simple course:
- Run from one point to another (e.g., tree to fence).
- Jump over a small, soft object (like a pool noodle or line drawn with chalk).
- Kick the large soft ball towards a target (like a wall or laundry basket).
- Walk along a line (straight or curvy) drawn with chalk or made with masking tape.
Encourage your little explorer! Use phrases like "Wow, great running!" or "Can you kick the ball hard?"
Activity 2: Master Builder Station (15 minutes)
Time to build!
- Sit together with the building blocks. Start stacking them. "Let's build a tall tower!"
- See how high your child can stack before it tumbles. Celebrate the crash and build again!
- Introduce the shape sorter or simple puzzle. Point to a shape/piece, "Where does the circle go?" or "Can you find the red piece?"
- Offer gentle help if needed, but encourage independent problem-solving.
Activity 3: Story Safari & Animal Sounds (10 minutes)
Snuggle up for a story.
- Choose a picture book, preferably one with animals or familiar objects.
- Read the story, pointing to pictures. Ask simple questions like, "What's that?" or "What does the cow say?"
- Encourage your child to name pictures or make animal sounds. Use 2-3 word phrases yourself, like "See the big dog?" or "Cow says 'Moo'."
- Let your child help turn the pages.
Activity 4: Sensory Bin Discovery (10-15 minutes)
(Requires close supervision, especially with small items or water)
Explore textures!
- Present the sensory bin (e.g., dry pasta, rice, sand, or supervised water play).
- Add scoops, cups, and maybe some small toy animals or cars.
- Let your child explore freely – scooping, pouring, digging.
- Talk about how it feels: "Is the pasta smooth?" "The water is wet!" "Can you find the little car?"
Cool Down: Quiet colouring (5-10 minutes)
Let's wind down.
- Provide large paper and chunky crayons or washable markers.
- Let your child scribble freely. You can draw simple shapes (circle, square) and name them.
- Talk quietly about the fun adventure day. "We ran fast!" "You built a tower!"
Tip: Flexibility is key! If your child is really engaged in one activity, spend more time there. If they lose interest, move on. Follow their lead while gently guiding them through the different experiences.
