Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to improve your reading comprehension skills by analyzing and summarizing texts related to your interests in video games, swimming, sports, Minecraft, and lazertag.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or loose-leaf paper
  • Access to a computer or tablet
  • Internet connection
  • Optional: Books, articles, or websites related to video games, swimming, sports, Minecraft, and lazertag

Activities

  1. Choose a topic from your interests, such as video games, swimming, sports, Minecraft, or lazertag.

    Research and find an article or website related to your chosen topic.

    Read the article or website carefully, taking notes on important information, key ideas, and any new vocabulary words you encounter.

    Summarize the main points of the article or website in your own words. Write a paragraph or create a bulleted list to capture the key information.

  2. Choose another topic from your interests and repeat the research and summarization process.

  3. Now, compare and contrast the two topics you researched. Write a short essay or create a Venn diagram highlighting the similarities and differences between the two topics.

  4. Share your findings with a family member or friend. Discuss the interesting aspects of each topic and what you learned from the research process.
