PowerPoint Storytelling Adventure!

Let's Make a Story Presentation!

Have you ever wanted to tell your own story using a cool computer presentation like PowerPoint? Today, we're going on an adventure to do just that! We'll learn about what makes a good story and then turn your amazing ideas into a PowerPoint show.

Part 1: What's in a Story? (10 minutes)

Every good story needs a few key ingredients:

  • Character(s): Who is the story about? (A brave knight? A silly alien? A talking squirrel?)
  • Setting: Where and when does the story happen? (A magical forest? A futuristic city? Your backyard?)
  • Plot: What happens in the story? This usually has three parts:
    • Beginning: Introduce the character and setting. What is the situation?
    • Middle: What happens next? Is there a problem or an adventure? This is the exciting part!
    • End: How does the story finish? How is the problem solved?

Think about your favorite simple story (like a fairy tale). Can you name the character, setting, and tell the beginning, middle, and end?

Part 2: Plan Your Awesome Story! (15 minutes)

Now it's your turn! Grab your paper and pencil. Let's plan your very own short story. Think about:

  1. Your Character: Who will star in your story? Give them a name!
  2. Your Setting: Where will your story take place?
  3. Your Plot:
    • Beginning: How does your story start?
    • Middle: What adventure or problem happens?
    • End: How does it all wrap up?

(Optional: Use a simple story graphic organizer with boxes for Character, Setting, Beginning, Middle, End). Write down your ideas!

Part 3: Build Your PowerPoint Story! (30-40 minutes)

Time for the computer! Let's open PowerPoint (or Google Slides).

  1. Slide 1: Title Slide
    • Choose a 'Title Slide' layout.
    • Type in a catchy title for your story.
    • Type 'By [Your Name]' below the title.
  2. Slide 2: Beginning
    • Choose a layout like 'Title and Content' or 'Content with Caption'.
    • Add a title like 'The Beginning' or 'Meet [Character Name]'.
    • Write 1-2 sentences introducing your character and setting.
    • Add a picture! You can use PowerPoint's 'Online Pictures' or 'Insert Picture' if you have some saved (ask for help searching safely if using online pictures). Find one that shows your character or setting.
  3. Slide 3: Middle
    • Add a new slide.
    • Add a title like 'The Adventure!' or 'The Problem!'.
    • Write 1-2 sentences about what happens in the middle of your story (the exciting part!).
    • Add another picture that shows the action!
  4. Slide 4: End
    • Add a new slide.
    • Add a title like 'The End' or 'How it Ended'.
    • Write 1-2 sentences explaining how your story finishes.
    • Add a final picture showing the resolution.
  5. Optional Slide 5: The Moral or Fun Fact
    • You could add one more slide with a fun picture or a sentence about what the character learned.

Tip: Keep the text short and easy to read. Use simple backgrounds and clear fonts.

Part 4: Present Your Story! (5-10 minutes)

Great job creating your story! Now, let's practice presenting it.

  • Click 'Slide Show' > 'From Beginning'.
  • Read each slide clearly.
  • Click to move to the next slide.

Now, present your amazing PowerPoint story! Be proud of your creation!

Wrap Up:

You did it! You planned a story, built a PowerPoint, and presented it. What was your favorite part? Creating the story, designing the slides, or presenting?
