Dino Discovery & PowerPoint Adventure!

Get ready to travel back in time and become a dinosaur expert! Today, we'll learn about some amazing dinosaurs and create our very own PowerPoint presentation to show off what we discover.

Lesson Activities:

1. Introduction: Welcome, Paleontologist! (5 mins)

Discuss: What do you already know about dinosaurs? Which ones are your favorites? Today, you're a paleontologist on a mission to discover more!

2. Dino Research Mission (25-30 mins)

Your mission is to choose 3-5 dinosaurs you find interesting. Use safe, kid-friendly websites (like National Geographic Kids, DK Find Out, or museum websites) to find the following information for EACH dinosaur:

  • Name: (Make sure to spell it correctly!)
  • Diet: Was it an herbivore (plant-eater), carnivore (meat-eater), or omnivore (ate both)?
  • Size: Was it huge, small, long, tall? (e.g., 'as long as a bus', 'as tall as a house')
  • One Cool Fact: What's something really interesting about this dinosaur?

Write down your findings neatly in your notebook. This is your research data!

3. PowerPoint Power-Up! (10 mins)

Let's open PowerPoint (or Google Slides). We'll learn how to:

  • Create a new presentation.
  • Add a title slide (Give it a great title like "My Awesome Dinosaur Discoveries!").
  • Add new slides for each dinosaur.
  • Add text boxes to type in the information you gathered.

4. Building Your Dino Deck (20-25 mins)

Now, create your presentation!

  • Slide 1: Your Title Slide (with your name).
  • Slide 2: Dinosaur #1. Add its Name, Diet, Size, and Cool Fact.
  • Slide 3: Dinosaur #2. Add its info.
  • Slide 4: Dinosaur #3. Add its info.
  • (Add more slides if you researched more dinosaurs).
  • Last Slide: A conclusion slide. Maybe write: "My favorite dinosaur was... because..." or "The most surprising thing I learned was...".

Focus on getting the information typed clearly onto each slide.

5. Presentation Time! (5-10 mins)

Show off your work! Present your PowerPoint presentation. Read the information on each slide clearly. Be proud of your research!

6. Wrap-up & Review (5 mins)

What was the most challenging part? What was the most fun part? What did you learn about dinosaurs today? What did you learn about using PowerPoint?
