Cake Recipe Detectives!
Welcome, Super Baker! Today, we're going on a mission to uncover the secrets of baking a delicious cake. We won't bake the whole thing right now, but we'll become experts on the plan!
Mission Briefing (5 minutes)
What do we need to bake a cake? Let's look at our simple recipe. Can you find the ingredients list? Let's read it together. What sounds familiar? What looks new?
Ingredient Investigation (10 minutes)
Let's examine some key players:
- Flour: This gives the cake structure. It's like the building blocks!
- Sugar: Makes it sweet, yum!
- Eggs: Helps bind everything together.
- Baking Soda/Powder: The magic! These create tiny bubbles to make the cake rise and become fluffy. (Show the baking soda/powder if available).
- Butter/Oil: Adds moisture and makes it tender.
- Milk/Water: More moisture!
Now, look at the recipe steps. What's the first thing it usually asks you to do? (Often mixing dry ingredients or creaming butter and sugar).
Why do you think measuring is so important in baking? What happens if we add too much flour? Or too little sugar?
Tools of the Trade (3 minutes)
Let's look at our measuring tools: measuring cups and spoons. Which one would you use for flour? Which one for vanilla extract?
