Introduction (2 minutes):
- Gather the student in an open space suitable for movement.
- Explain: "Today we're going to play a fun game with numbers and moving our bodies! You'll pick a number, and then we'll do a silly action that many times."
- Show the hat and the number slips, reviewing numbers 1-5 if needed.
Activity: Number Moves (10-15 minutes):
- Have the student pick one number slip from the hat without looking.
- Ask the student to identify the number. If they need help, assist them.
- Assign a simple action or let the student choose one (or have pre-determined actions for each number). Examples:
- 1 = Stomp foot
- 2 = Clap hands
- 3 = Hop on one foot
- 4 = Jump up high
- 5 = Spin around
- Say: "Okay, you picked the number [Number]! Let's [Action] [Number] times together. Ready? Count with me!"
- Perform the action together, counting aloud for each repetition.
- Place the used number slip aside.
- Repeat steps 1-5 until all numbers have been drawn or the student's interest wanes.
Variations/Differentiation:
- Simpler: Use only numbers 1-3. Focus more on the action and less on perfect counting initially. Provide physical prompts for actions.
- More Challenging: Introduce numbers 6-10. Use more complex actions (e.g., jumping jacks, touching toes). Ask the student to come up with the action themselves.
Cool-Down/Closure (2 minutes):
- Sit down together.
- Review the numbers drawn and the actions performed. "Wow, we hopped 3 times and clapped 2 times! That was great counting and moving!"
- Praise the student's effort and participation.
