Welcome, Oliver! Get ready for a fun learning adventure today!
Warm-up (5 mins): Let's Chat!
What's your favorite book you've read recently? What did you like about it?
Reading Fun: Y Detectives & Picture Match (15-20 mins)
- Y Sounds: We have some special sight words today with the letter 'y'! Sometimes 'y' makes a long 'I' sound (like in 'my') and sometimes it makes a long 'E' sound (like in 'happy'). Look at this list of words (use prepared list): my, by, fly, happy, funny, sky, cry, puppy, baby. Read each word aloud. Does the 'y' sound like 'I' or 'E'? Sort them into two groups!
- Sentence Match: Now, look at these pictures (use prepared cards). Read these sentences (use prepared strips). Can you find the sentence that perfectly describes each picture? Read the matching sentence aloud!
English Language Arts: Sentence Superpowers! (10-15 mins)
- Let's watch a short video about different kinds of sentences! Some tell something (declarative), some ask something (interrogative), some show excitement (exclamatory), and some give a command (imperative).
- Watch the "Sentence types lesson video".
- After the video, can you give me an example of each type? Maybe one about your favorite book character?
Math Shapes: Exploring 3D! (10-15 mins)
- Time for shapes! We see flat shapes all the time, but today we're looking at shapes that are not flat – 3D shapes!
- Watch the "beginning to identify 3D shapes" lesson video.
- Can you find anything in the room that looks like a cube? A sphere (like a ball)? A cone (like an ice cream cone)? A cylinder (like a can)? (Optional: Use physical shape models if available).
Science Dive: Amazing Coral Reefs! (15-20 mins)
- Let's travel under the sea! We're going to learn about coral reefs.
- Watch the "What makes coral reefs unique" lesson video.
- Wow! What did you learn that makes coral reefs special?
- Discussion: Coral reefs are full of different kinds of plants and animals living together. That's called 'biodiversity'. Why do you think having lots of different sea creatures is important for the reef?
- Sadly, sometimes things hurt the reefs. One problem is 'overfishing' – when people catch too many fish. How might catching too many fish harm the coral reef and the other animals living there?
Social Studies: Community Leaders (10-15 mins)
- Remember how we talked about people who help run our town or city? Let's review what a mayor does. What are some jobs a mayor has to help the community? (e.g., helps make rules, leads meetings, works with police/firefighters).
- How does someone become a mayor? People vote for them! It's called an election. Adults in the community choose who they think will do the best job.
Wrap-up (5 mins):
