Become a World Travel Planner!
Hey Madison! Ever dream of traveling the world? Today, you're the travel agent! Your mission is to plan an exciting (imaginary, for now!) one-week trip to a country you've always wanted to visit. Let's explore!
Phase 1: Choose Your Destination & Initial Research (Approx. 45 mins)
Where in the world do you want to go? Pick a country that fascinates you!
- Select a Country: Write down the country you've chosen.
- Virtual Exploration: Use tools like Google Earth, travel websites (like Lonely Planet or Culture Trip), and maybe some travel vlogs on YouTube.
- Gather Intel: Find out:
- What continent is it on?
- What are its major cities or landmarks?
- What's the geography like (mountains, beaches, deserts)?
- What languages are spoken?
- What's the climate usually like this time of year?
- Quick check: Are there any travel advisories or major safety concerns a tourist should know? (We're pretending, but it's good practice!)
- Jot Notes: Keep track of your findings in your notebook or a digital document.
Phase 2: Design Your Dream Itinerary (Approx. 60 mins)
Now, let's plan a 7-day adventure in your chosen country!
- Map it Out: Look at a map of the country. Will you stay in one city or visit a couple of places? (Keep travel time between places in mind).
- Daily Activities: For each of the 7 days, brainstorm activities. Think about:
- Visiting famous landmarks (Eiffel Tower, Great Wall, Machu Picchu?).
- Exploring nature (hiking, visiting a national park?).
- Experiencing culture (museums, local markets, historical sites?).
- Trying local food (research some famous dishes!).
- Relaxation time!
- Create the Schedule: Write down a simple day-by-day plan. It doesn't need exact times, just a general flow. Example:
- Day 1: Arrive in [City], check into hotel, explore the local neighborhood.
- Day 2: Visit [Famous Landmark], try [Local Dish] for lunch.
- Day 3: Day trip to [Nearby Town/Nature Spot].
- ...and so on.
- Budget Brainstorm (Optional): Think briefly about costs. Would this be an expensive trip or relatively budget-friendly? What factors influence this (flights, accommodation type, activities)?
Phase 3: Cultural Spotlight (Approx. 30 mins)
Dive deeper into one aspect of the culture!
- Choose a Focus: Pick something specific that interests you from your research – a festival, a type of music or dance, a traditional craft, a unique custom, a specific historical event, or a famous food dish.
- Research Deeper: Find out more about its history, significance, and how it's practiced or experienced today.
- Prepare to Share: Organize your findings. You could write a short paragraph, create a mind map, or list key bullet points to explain your spotlight topic.
Phase 4: Share Your Adventure! (Approx. 15 mins)
Present your trip plan! Tell me (or write down):
- The country you chose and why.
- Your 7-day itinerary highlights.
- What you learned in your Cultural Spotlight research.
- Was the planning fun? What was the most interesting thing you discovered? What would be the biggest challenge on this hypothetical trip?
Extension Ideas (Optional):
- Create a visual travel brochure or a short slideshow presentation.
- Research flight and accommodation costs for your dates.
- Write a 'travel journal' entry for one day of your trip.
- Learn a few basic phrases in the local language.
