Lesson Plan:
Introduction: The Mission Briefing! (5-10 minutes)
Hello, Super Isaac! We have an urgent mission today! The grumpy King K. Rool has snuck into Donkey Kong's treehouse and stolen all of DK's precious bananas! Donkey Kong is very sad and needs a brave and clever helper to get them back. Are you ready to team up with Donkey Kong and go on an adventure to retrieve the bananas?
(Show the 'King K. Rool' figure with a pile of 'bananas' nearby. If you have a DK toy, show him looking concerned.)
Our main goal is to find all the bananas King K. Rool has hidden and bring them back to DK!
Warm-up: Jungle Hero Training! (5 minutes)
To be a great helper for Donkey Kong, we need to do some Jungle Hero Training! Let's get our bodies ready for adventure:
- DK Stomps: Stomp your feet like Donkey Kong 5 times! (Let's count together: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
- Mario Jumps: Jump up high like Mario trying to hit a block, 5 times! (Count together)
- DK Chest Pound: Gently pound your chest like DK does when he's proud! (Maybe make a 'HOO-HAH!' sound!)
- Letter Hunt: Let's look around. Can you find anything that starts with the letter 'D' for Donkey Kong? What about the letter 'K' for Kong?
Activity 1: Level 1 - Treetop Tumble & Banana Grab! (10 minutes)
King K. Rool has scattered some bananas in the treetops! We need to carefully make our way there.
Setup: Place 3-5 'bananas' (yellow items) on a slightly raised surface (like a cushion or a low stool). Create a pretend 'vine' (you can use a scarf, a piece of string held by an adult, or just imagine it!) that Isaac needs to 'swing' on or carefully walk along (like a line on the floor) to reach them.
Action: "Okay, Isaac! Let's pretend you're swinging through the jungle vines! Be careful! Now, grab those bananas!"
Once Isaac collects the bananas: "Fantastic! How many bananas did you find? Let's count them together." (Count them aloud). "Great job! You rescued [number] bananas for DK! Let's put them in a special 'DK's Stash' pile."
Activity 2: Level 2 - Barrel Blast Maze! (10 minutes)
Oh no! King K. Rool has hidden more bananas inside or behind some tricky barrels!
Setup: Use 2-3 cardboard boxes or pillows as 'barrels.' Hide another 3-5 'bananas' under or behind them.
Action: "Isaac, we need to get past these barrels. You can try to carefully roll like a barrel, jump over them, or 'blast' them open (gently lift them) to find the hidden bananas!"
Once Isaac finds the bananas: "You're a great detective! How many bananas did you discover this time?" (Count them). "Add them to DK's Stash! It's getting bigger!"
Optional: Give Isaac a 'gold coin' for completing this level.
Activity 3: Creative Power-Up! Design Time! (10-15 minutes)
Wow, Isaac, you're doing an amazing job! Donkey Kong is so proud. Sometimes, heroes need a little extra help. Let's design something special for DK!
Action: "Using your paper and markers, can you draw a brand new Power-Up for Donkey Kong? Maybe it helps him jump higher, or find bananas faster! Or, you could draw a new friend for the Kong Family who can help on adventures!"
(While Isaac draws, ask him about his creation: What does it do? What is its name?)
"This is a fantastic idea, Isaac! DK will love this!"
Activity 4: Level 4 - King K. Rool's Hideout! (10 minutes)
We're getting close! The last batch of bananas is guarded by King K. Rool himself!
Setup: Place the 'King K. Rool' figure with the remaining bananas (e.g., 4-6) in a designated spot. Maybe K. Rool is 'sleeping' or distracted.
Action: "There he is, Isaac! And there are the rest of the bananas! We need to be sneaky. Can you tiptoe very quietly to get the bananas? Or maybe we can create a distraction! Can you make a loud monkey sound to make K. Rool look away while you grab the bananas?"
Once Isaac collects the final bananas: "You got them all! Quick, let's count these last ones!" (Count them). "Now let's count ALL the bananas in DK's Stash! How many did we rescue in total?" (Count all collected bananas).
Conclusion: Victory Banana Dance! (5 minutes)
(If you have DK music, play a victory tune!)
"YOU DID IT, ISAAC! You are a true Jungle Hero! You helped Donkey Kong get all [total number] of his bananas back from King K. Rool! Donkey Kong is so happy he wants to do a victory banana dance!"
(Do a silly dance together!)
Let's remember all the cool things we did:
- We counted lots of bananas!
- We went on an adventure through different levels!
- We helped Donkey Kong!
- We even designed a cool new power-up/friend!
What was your favorite part of helping Donkey Kong today, Isaac?
Great job, Super Adventurer!
