Introduction (5 mins)
Start with a welcoming song or read a short, engaging picture book about different types of transportation. Ask the child: "What are some ways we can travel from one place to another?" Introduce today's topic: Transportation!
Activity 1: Transportation Sort (10 mins)
Gather the toy vehicles. Introduce the sorting categories: Land (things that travel on the ground), Air (things that fly), and Water (things that float). Use simple visual cues if helpful (e.g., a blue paper for water, brown for land, white for air/clouds). Guide the child to pick up each vehicle, name it (if possible), and decide if it travels on land, in the air, or on water, placing it in the correct category. Offer gentle corrections and prompts. Celebrate their sorting!
Activity 2: Shape Vehicle Craft (10 mins)
Provide pre-cut construction paper shapes (circles for wheels, rectangles/squares for bodies, triangles for sails or wings). Say, "Let's build our own vehicles!" Ask the child what kind of vehicle they want to make (car, truck, boat, plane). Guide them to choose shapes and glue or tape them onto a piece of paper to create their vehicle. Encourage them to talk about their creation.
Wrap-up & Movement (5 mins)
Let's move like vehicles! Ask the child: "How does a car move?" (Drive around making engine noises). "How does an airplane fly?" (Stretch arms out and 'fly' around). "How does a boat float?" (Wiggle side to side). Review the types of vehicles discussed. Praise their participation and creativity.
