Carson's Colorful Shapes Adventure!

Welcome, Carson! Today, we're going on an exciting adventure to discover amazing shapes and beautiful colors! Are you ready?

Part 1: Hello Shapes! (10 minutes)

Let's start by meeting our shape friends: Circle, Square, and Triangle!

(Adult shows pre-cut shapes from construction paper: a red circle, a blue square, a yellow triangle)

  • "This is a Circle. It's round like a ball! Can you say 'circle'?"
  • "This is a Square. It has four sides that are all the same. Can you say 'square'?"
  • "This is a Triangle. It has three pointy corners! Can you say 'triangle'?"

Shape Hunt Warm-up: Can you look around the room and point to something that looks like a circle? How about a square? A triangle might be tricky, but let's look!

Part 2: Color Splash! (10 minutes)

Now let's talk about colors! We will focus on three special colors today: Red, Yellow, and Blue.

(Adult points to the colored shapes or other red, yellow, blue items)

Story Time: Let's read a book about colors! (Read a book like "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" or a simple color/shape book. As you read, ask Carson to point out the colors red, yellow, and blue.)

Part 3: Shape & Color Sorting Game! (15 minutes)

I have a basket of fun things here! (Show basket with various household objects of different shapes and primary colors - e.g., red ball (circle), blue block (square), yellow piece of cheese (triangle if possible, or just focus on color).

  1. Shape Sort: "Let's put all the circle things together. Now all the square things!"
  2. Color Sort: "Great job! Now, let's find all the red things and put them in this pile. Now all the yellow things. And finally, all the blue things!"

(Praise Carson's efforts enthusiastically!)

Part 4: Creative Shape Art! (15 minutes)

Now it's time to make your own shape picture!

(Provide Carson with a piece of paper, pre-cut construction paper shapes in various colors – especially red, yellow, blue circles, squares, triangles – and a glue stick.)

"You can make anything you want! Maybe a house with a square body and a triangle roof? Or a funny face with circle eyes? Let's see what you create!"

(Assist with glue if needed. Talk about the shapes and colors he is using.)

Part 5: Shape & Color Song & Dance! (5 minutes)

Let's sing a song about shapes and colors! You can make up actions!

(Sing a simple song, e.g., to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")

"Circles, squares, triangles too,
Red and yellow, and bright blue!
Shapes and colors, oh what fun,
Learning with them has begun!"

(Encourage Carson to jump for joy, clap, or point to colors/shapes as you sing.)

Part 6: Adventure Wrap-up! (5 minutes)

Wow, Carson, you were an amazing shape and color explorer today!

  • "Can you show me a circle you made in your picture?"
  • "What was your favorite color we talked about today?"
  • "What shape is our plate (or another nearby object)?"

You learned so much! High five! Next time, we can explore even more shapes and colors!
