Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and pronounce phonic sounds.
Materials and Prep
- Phonic sound flashcards (create your own or use an online resource)
- Writing materials (paper and crayons/markers)
- Optional: Phonics-related storybooks
Activities
-
Introduce the concept of phonic sounds by showing the flashcards one by one. Explain that each flashcard represents a different sound.
Example: "Look at this flashcard. It shows the letter 'A' and the sound it makes is /a/ like 'apple'. Can you say /a/?"
-
Engage in a hands-on activity where the student practices writing the phonic sounds they have learned. Provide them with paper and crayons/markers and encourage them to write the corresponding letter for each sound.
Example: "Let's practice writing the sound /a/. Can you draw a big 'A' on the paper?"
-
Read phonics-related storybooks together. Point out the phonic sounds as you come across them in the text.
Example: "Listen carefully to this story. When you hear the sound /a/, let's say it together. Ready?"
