My Body, My Rules! A Fun Adventure in Body Safety for Jax

Hi Jax! Today we're going on a super important adventure to learn about being the boss of our own bodies! It's like being a superhero, and your body is your superpower suit. We need to keep it safe!

Let's Start with a Song!

Let's sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" to warm up and think about all our amazing body parts!

(Sing the song together)

Activity 1: My Amazing Body & Private Parts

Our bodies are amazing! They can jump, run, hug, think, and so much more. Some parts of our body are private. Private means they are just for us, and they are usually covered by our underwear or swimsuit.

Let's Draw! On a piece of paper with a body outline (or we can draw one!), can you color the areas that are your private parts – the parts your underwear covers?

These parts are special and just for you. Nobody gets to see or touch them unless you say it's okay, and only if it’s for keeping you healthy, like when Mom or Dad helps you bathe, or a doctor needs to check if you’re okay (and Mom or Dad should be there!). It’s okay to use correct names for these parts, or we can call them "private spots."

Activity 2: Safe Touches, Unsafe Touches, and Tricky People

Touches can be different. Some touches feel good, like a hug from Mom or Dad when you want one, or a high-five. These are "Okay Touches" or "Green Light Touches." They make us feel happy and safe.

Some touches feel bad, scary, or confusing. These are "Not Okay Touches" or "Red Light Touches." These might be touches on your private parts when it's not for health or hygiene, or any touch anywhere on your body that makes you feel yucky, scared, or uncomfortable. It's important to remember that it's NEVER your fault if someone gives you a "Not Okay Touch."

Watch out for Tricky People: Sometimes, someone might try to trick you. They might say "it's our little secret" or "I'll give you a toy if you do this." These are tricks! Secrets about touches that make you feel weird or uncomfortable are NEVER okay. If someone asks you to keep a secret about a touch like that, that's a big warning sign, and you MUST tell a trusted adult right away.

(Parent: Let's talk about some examples. What if a friend pats your back after a game? How does that feel? What if someone you don't know tries to touch your private parts?)

Activity 3: My Safety Bubble & Saying "NO!"

Imagine you have a giant, invisible bubble all around you. This is your "Safety Bubble" or "Personal Space Bubble"! You get to decide who comes into your bubble and how close they get.

Let's Practice! If someone is too close, or tries to give you a touch you don’t want, or makes you feel uncomfortable, you have the power to say "NO!" very loudly and clearly. Let’s practice right now! Say it strong: "NO!" ... "STOP!" ... "I DON'T LIKE THAT!"

Saying "no" is being brave and strong. It's YOUR body, and you are the boss!

Activity 4: My Trusted Adults - My Safety Team!

Who are the grown-ups you trust and can talk to about anything, especially if you feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or if someone gives you a "Not Okay Touch" or asks you to keep a "Not Okay Secret"? These are your Trusted Adults, your Safety Team!

Let’s make a list or draw pictures of at least three grown-ups you trust. (e.g., Mom, Dad, Grandma, teacher, etc.)

Super Important Tip: If you tell one trusted adult and they don't help or understand, KEEP TELLING other trusted adults on your list until someone listens and helps you. You are doing the right thing by telling!

Activity 5: Let's Role-Play! (Practicing Our Superhero Skills)

Now, let's pretend and practice what we’ve learned. I’ll describe a situation, and you show me what you would do or say.

  • Scenario 1: Someone tries to tickle you, but you don't want to be tickled right now. What do you do/say? (Practice saying "No, stop! I don't want to be tickled.")
  • Scenario 2: A relative you don't see very often tries to give you a big hug that makes you feel a bit squished and uncomfortable. What can you do/say? (Practice saying "No, thank you," or "I just want a high-five right now," and moving away.)
  • Scenario 3: Someone older asks you to keep a secret about a game they want to play that involves touching private parts. What do you do/say? (Practice saying "No, I can't keep secrets like that. I have to tell my mom/dad/trusted adult," and then "telling" the parent.)

You're a Body Safety Superhero, Jax!

Wow, Jax! You did an amazing job learning about body safety today! Remember these important things (your superpowers!):

  • Your body is YOURS, and you are the boss of it.
  • You know the difference between okay and not-okay touches.
  • You have the right to say "NO!" if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
  • You have a team of Trusted Adults you can always tell if anything worries you.
  • It is NEVER your fault if someone gives you an unsafe touch or makes you feel uncomfortable.

Let's put your "Trusted Adults" drawing somewhere special so you always remember who you can talk to! You are so smart and brave!
