🎯 Learning Objectives & Success Criteria
| What We Will Learn (Objectives) | How I Know I Did It (Success Criteria) |
|---|---|
| Understand what Ayurveda and "Marma points" are in simple, kid-friendly terms. | I can explain that Marma points are like "magic energy buttons" on my body that help me feel good. |
| Locate three specific, safe-to-press Marma points on my own body. | I can find and point to my crown point (Adhipati), palm point (Talahridaya), and nose points (Phana). |
| Practice a gentle, safe self-massage technique to encourage calm. | I can use a soft "butterfly touch" to gently massage these points without pressing too hard. |
🌟 Introduction: The Secret Buttons (10 Minutes)
🗣️ Adult Talking Point: "Have you ever found a hidden button on a toy that makes it do something really cool, like light up, play a song, or move its arms? Did you know that your body has secret, magic buttons too?
Thousands of years ago, wise teachers in a beautiful place called India studied the body. They called this study Ayurveda (eye-yur-vay-duh), which means 'the science of life' or 'nature's wisdom.' They discovered special spots on our skin where our energy is super strong. They named these spots Marma points. When we touch them gently, it's like sending a happy message directly to our brain to help us feel calm, strong, or happy!"
The "Butterfly Touch" Rule: Before we begin, we must learn the golden rule of Marma. Marma points are special and sensitive. We never push them hard! We use the "Butterfly Touch." Let's practice: Press your index finger into your other hand as hard as you can ("Ouch, that doesn't feel nice!"). Now, imagine a butterfly landing gently on a flower. Touch your hand so softly that you barely feel it. That is the Butterfly Touch! We will only use this gentle touch today.
🧩 Body: Discovering the 3 Magic Buttons (25 Minutes)
👑 Step 1: The Crown King Point (I Do / Modeling)
The instructor/parent models finding the first point: Adhipati (ah-dee-pah-tee), which means "The Lord of Everything" or "The King Point."
How to find it: "Watch me first. I am going to place the heel of my palm right between my eyebrows, and slide my middle finger straight up to the very top/center of my head. Right here, where a crown would sit, is the King Point!
This point is like a remote control for my mind. When I feel wild, hyper, or worried, I can tap or rub this point gently to help my brain feel peaceful and quiet."
🤝 Step 2: Finding Our Points Together (We Do / Guided Practice)
Now, let's find our points together! We will learn two more secret buttons.
- Let's find Adhipati (The King Point) together: Use your mirror. Slide your finger up to the very top center of your head. Once you find it, use two fingers to make 5 tiny, gentle circles clock-wise (the way a clock ticks). Close your eyes and take one deep breath. How does it feel?
-
Let's find Talahridaya (tah-lah-hree-dah-yah) - The Palm Point:
This name means "The Heart of the Hand."
How to find it: Hold your hand open, palm facing up. Now, fold your middle finger down until it touches your palm. Where the tip of your middle finger lands is your Palm Point!
The Magic: This button helps us feel safe, warm, and cozy. Let's take our opposite thumb and gently press the Palm Point using our Butterfly Touch. Let's do 5 soft circles while humming like a bee: "Mmmmmm..." -
Let's find Phana (fah-nah) - The Breathe-Easy Points:
This name means "The Cobra's Hood" because they look like little wings on our nose!
How to find it: Look in your mirror. Find the outside edge of each nostril (the bottom sides of your nose). Move your fingers just slightly outward into the tiny little dips right next to your nose.
The Magic: These buttons help us breathe fresh air and smell flowers. Take your index fingers, place them on the Phana points, and press very gently. Take a big breath in through your nose... and let it blow out of your mouth! Repeat three times.
🎨 Step 3: Map Your Magic Buttons (You Do / Independent Activity)
Now it is your turn to create your own Energy Map and practice being a wellness guide!
Your Activity Missions:
- Mission 1: Map It! Take your paper body outline. Place a star sticker (or draw a star with a marker) on the three spots we learned: the top of the head (Adhipati), the palm of the hand (Talahridaya), and the sides of the nose (Phana). Write the first letter of each point next to the star (A, T, and P).
- Mission 2: Help Your Toy! Take your stuffed animal or doll. Gently guide them through the "Three Magic Buttons" routine. Use your butterfly touch to show where their crown point, hand point, and nose points are. Whisper to them why these points make them feel happy and safe.
🧘 Conclusion: Recap & Reflection (10 Minutes)
Let's gather back together for our calm reflection. We will ring our quiet chime/bell. When you hear the chime, close your eyes, sit comfortably like a tall mountain, and place one hand over your heart.
🤔 Quick Questions to Share (Checking for Understanding):
1. "What is the secret word for our magic energy buttons?" (Answer: Marma!)
2. "What kind of touch do we use so we are safe and gentle?" (Answer: Butterfly Touch!)
3. "Which of the three buttons was your favorite to press today, and why?"
The Everyday Challenge: "Next time you are feeling a little bit sleepy, a little bit grumpy, or too excited to go to sleep, remember your magic buttons. You can use your Talahridaya (palm) or Adhipati (head) point to help your body feel calm all by yourself!"
