Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and comprehend an adventure story, identify key elements of the plot, and discuss the main characters and setting.

Materials and Prep

  • An adventure book of your choice
  • A notebook or paper
  • A pen or pencil

Activities

  1. Choose an adventure book that interests you. Look at the cover and read the title and author's name.
  2. Before starting to read, write down three predictions about what you think might happen in the story based on the cover and title.
  3. Begin reading the adventure story. As you read, make a list of the main characters and write a brief description of each one.
  4. Take breaks while reading to draw pictures of important scenes from the story. Label each picture with a short caption.
  5. When you finish reading, write a summary of the story. Include the main characters, the setting, and the most exciting part of the adventure.
  6. Share your predictions, character descriptions, and summary with a family member or friend. Discuss the similarities and differences between your predictions and the actual story.
