Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and discuss the lyrics of a Korean pop song, identify literary devices used, and make connections between the song's themes and their own experiences.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or smartphone with internet access
  • Headphones or speakers to listen to the music
  • A notebook or paper for taking notes

No prior knowledge of Korean pop music or language is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Introduce the student to a popular Korean pop song of their choice. Encourage them to listen to the song multiple times and pay attention to the lyrics.
  2. Ask the student to write down any unfamiliar words or phrases from the lyrics. Discuss the meaning of these words and their context in the song.
  3. Guide the student in identifying literary devices used in the lyrics, such as metaphors, similes, or personification. Discuss the impact of these devices on the overall meaning and emotion of the song.
  4. Encourage the student to make connections between the song's themes and their own experiences. Have them write a short reflection on how the song resonates with them personally.
  5. Facilitate a class discussion where the student can share their reflections and insights. Encourage them to support their ideas with evidence from the lyrics.
