Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the story of Alice in Wonderland and create your own parade card game based on the characters and events in the book.

Materials and Prep

  • Alice in Wonderland book
  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank index cards or paper
  • Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils)

Activities

  1. Read and discuss Alice in Wonderland: Start by reading the book Alice in Wonderland together. Take turns reading out loud and pause to discuss key events, characters, and themes.
  2. Create parade card game characters: On the blank index cards or paper, draw and color the characters from the book. Be creative and give each character a unique design.
  3. Design parade floats: Using additional index cards or paper, design parade floats that represent different scenes or events from the book. Think about the colors, decorations, and details that would make each float stand out.
  4. Play the parade card game: Shuffle the character cards and the float cards separately. Draw one character card and one float card and discuss how they relate to each other based on the story. For example, if you draw the Queen of Hearts character card and the tea party float card, you can talk about how the Queen of Hearts hosted a tea party in the story. Keep drawing cards and discussing the connections until you have gone through all the cards.
