By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply your knowledge of Earth Science to develop a card game.

Materials and Prep

  • Deck of playing cards
  • Blank index cards
  • Markers or colored pencils
  • Access to internet or books for research

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Research Earth Science topics that you find interesting. This could include subjects like volcanoes, earthquakes, weather patterns, or rock formations.

  2. Choose at least four different Earth Science topics and create a list of facts or information about each one. Write each fact on a separate index card.

  3. Assign a suit to each Earth Science topic. For example, hearts could represent volcanoes, diamonds could represent earthquakes, clubs could represent weather patterns, and spades could represent rock formations.

  4. Create the rules for your card game. Decide how the cards will be played and what actions or consequences each suit or number will have.

  5. Design the cards by drawing or coloring relevant illustrations on the blank index cards. Make sure to include the Earth Science topic and the corresponding suit on each card.

  6. Playtest your card game with friends or family members. Make adjustments to the rules or cards as needed based on feedback and gameplay experience.
