Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to solve various addition problems, including adding to 10, adding to 20, and adding three numbers.

Materials and Prep

Before starting the lesson, make sure you are familiar with the concept of counting and basic addition.

Activities

  1. Adding to 10: Practice adding two numbers that sum up to 10. Use manipulatives or draw pictures to help you visualize the addition.
  2. Adding to 10 (Counting On): Learn the strategy of counting on when adding to 10. Start with the larger number and count on the remaining amount.
  3. Rolling Dice: Roll two dice and add the numbers together. Use a number line or objects to help you find the sum.
  4. Adding to 20: Extend your addition skills by adding two numbers that sum up to 20. Use the same strategies as before.
  5. Adding to 20 (Counting On): Apply the counting on strategy to addition problems with numbers up to 20.
  6. Number Line Addition: Use a number line to solve addition problems. Practice adding numbers with the help of a number line.
  7. Single Digit Missing Numbers: Solve addition problems where one of the addends is missing. Fill in the missing number to find the sum.
  8. Adding Three Numbers: Learn how to add three numbers together. Start with two numbers and then add the third number.
