- Animal flashcards
- Paper and crayons
- Animal stickers
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Read Aloud: Choose an animal-themed picture book and read it aloud to the toddler. Encourage them to point out and name the animals they see in the book.
- Animal Flashcards: Show the toddler different animal flashcards and ask them to identify the animals. Discuss the characteristics of each animal, such as the sound they make or where they live.
- Draw and Color: Provide the toddler with paper and crayons. Ask them to draw their favorite animal and color it. Encourage them to describe their drawing and share why they like that particular animal.
- Animal Stickers: Give the toddler animal stickers and ask them to stick each sticker on the corresponding flashcard. For example, if they have a sticker of a lion, they should find the lion flashcard and place the sticker on it.
Toddler Grade Talking Points
- "Animals are living creatures that can be found all around us."
- "Some animals live on land, like dogs and cats, while others live in water, like fish and dolphins."
- "Animals make different sounds. Can you make the sound of a dog? Woof woof!"
- "Animals come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Look at this picture of a zebra with black and white stripes!"
- "We can draw and color animals to show what they look like. What colors would you use to draw a butterfly?"
- "Stickers can help us match animals to their pictures. Let's find the monkey sticker and put it on the monkey flashcard!"
