Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a menu plan for 7 days, create a shopping list, and determine if you can stay under budget while maintaining a healthy nutrition for your family.

Activities

  1. Research and plan your menu for 7 days, considering the dietary needs of your family members, including the dog and cat.
  2. Create a shopping list based on your menu plan, making sure to include personal items, pet food, cleaning products, and any other miscellaneous items you may need.
  3. Use a virtual shopping list from a grocery store website to estimate the total cost of your shopping list. Adjust your list if necessary to stay within your budget.
  4. Research car costs, depreciation, interest rates, third party insurance, and full comprehensive insurance. Understand the difference between third party and comprehensive car insurance.
  5. Estimate monthly maintenance costs and repair costs for owning a car.
  6. Calculate the cost of a return ticket from home to the airport and from home to Armadale shopping centre for 5 days using public transport.
  7. Compare the costs of owning a car versus traveling by public transport. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
