Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to analyze characters and themes in the Harry Potter series and apply critical thinking skills to discuss the story.

Materials and Prep

  • Harry Potter book of your choice
  • Pen or pencil
  • Notebook or loose-leaf paper

Activities

  1. Read a chapter from the Harry Potter book you have selected.

    As you read, pay close attention to the characters and their traits, as well as any themes or messages that emerge.

  2. After reading the chapter, choose one character from the story and write a character analysis. Include details about their personality, appearance, and actions. Explain how the character contributes to the overall story.

  3. Identify a theme or message that you believe the author is trying to convey in the chapter you read. Write a short paragraph explaining your interpretation and provide evidence from the text to support your ideas.

  4. Discuss your character analysis and theme interpretation with a family member or friend. Share your thoughts and listen to their perspective. Engage in a conversation about the different interpretations and perspectives.
