Second Grade Talking Points

  • "Did you know that the Earth is our home planet? It is where we live, and it is made up of land, water, and air."
  • "The Earth is part of a larger system called the solar system. It includes the Sun, which is a star, and other planets like Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune."
  • "Have you ever looked up at the sky at night and seen the Moon? The Moon is Earth's natural satellite, and it orbits around our planet."
  • "Weather is what we call the condition of the air outside. It can be sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy, or even snowy. Different weather patterns happen because of the Earth's position and the way it moves around the Sun."
  • "Volcanoes are mountains that can erupt and release hot lava, ash, and gases. They are formed when molten rock, called magma, rises to the surface."
  • "Did you know that there are different types of rocks? Some rocks are formed from cooled lava, like basalt, while others are made up of compressed sediment, like sandstone."
