Materials and Prep

  • Pen or pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook
  • Computer or tablet with internet access
  • Roblox account (optional)

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a basic understanding of Roblox and its features.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming: Think about your favorite Roblox game or experience. What makes it exciting or interesting to you? Write down at least three key elements that you enjoy.

  2. Creating Characters: Imagine yourself as a character in your favorite Roblox game. Write a detailed description of your character, including their appearance, personality, and special abilities.

  3. Setting the Scene: Choose a unique location within your favorite Roblox game. Describe the setting using vivid language and sensory details. What does it look like? What sounds can be heard? Are there any interesting smells or tastes?

  4. Dialogue Practice: Write a conversation between your character and another player in the game. Use quotation marks and proper punctuation to indicate dialogue. Make the conversation engaging and reflective of your characters' personalities.

  5. Story Writing: Use the elements you brainstormed, the character description, setting description, and dialogue to write a creative story set in your favorite Roblox game. Be sure to include a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Fourth Grade Talking Points

  • "Descriptive language helps paint a picture in the reader's mind. It makes the story more interesting and engaging."
  • "Dialogue is a conversation between characters. It helps us understand their thoughts, feelings, and actions."
  • "A story has different parts: a beginning where the characters and setting are introduced, a middle where the problem or conflict arises, and an end where the problem is resolved."
  • "When writing dialogue, we use quotation marks to show when someone is speaking. We also use punctuation like commas, question marks, and exclamation points to indicate the tone of the conversation."
  • "Think about your favorite Roblox game and what makes it special to you. Use that inspiration to create your own exciting story!"
