Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the basic principles of government and citizenship through the lens of Fortnite.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer or gaming console with access to Fortnite
  • Internet connection
  • Pen and paper

Activities

  1. Research and Discuss: Start by researching the concept of government and citizenship. Write down key definitions and examples on your paper. Then, discuss how these concepts might relate to Fortnite. How does Fortnite have its own rules and regulations? How are players expected to behave and follow certain guidelines?

  2. Create a Fortnite Constitution: Imagine that Fortnite is a country with its own government. Design a constitution for this fictional Fortnite nation. Think about the rights and responsibilities of the citizens, the structure of the government, and how laws and regulations would be enforced. Write down your ideas and present them.

  3. Debate: Choose a controversial topic related to Fortnite, such as the introduction of certain weapons or game modes. Take on the roles of different stakeholders (players, game developers, parents, etc.) and engage in a debate. Use logical arguments and evidence to support your position. This will help you understand how different perspectives can shape decision-making in a society.

  4. Reflect and Write: After the activities, reflect on what you have learned about government and citizenship through the lens of Fortnite. Write a short essay discussing the similarities and differences between the concepts in the game and real-world governments. How can understanding these concepts in Fortnite help you become a better citizen in your own community?
