Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to break ice to free toys and improve your reading skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Toys frozen in ice (can be small plastic toys or objects)
  • A large container or basin
  • Water
  • A towel or mat to work on

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have all the materials ready and set up a safe and comfortable workspace.

Activities

  1. Introduce the concept of breaking ice to free toys. Explain that today, you will be reading a story about toys stuck in ice and then practice breaking ice to free toys just like in the story.
  2. Read a story related to breaking ice and freeing toys. You can choose a book like "The Ice Toy Rescue" or "The Frozen Friends Adventure". Encourage active participation by asking questions and discussing the story as you read.
  3. After reading the story, show the container filled with ice and the toys frozen inside. Explain that the toys are stuck and need help to be free.
  4. Encourage the student to use their hands or any safe tools (e.g., spoon, toy hammer) to break the ice and free the toys. Guide them in the process and encourage them to describe what they are doing as they break the ice.
  5. Once the toys are free, have the student identify and name each toy. Encourage them to describe the toys using adjectives (e.g., color, size, shape).
  6. Finally, have the student practice reading by creating simple sentences about the toys they freed. For example, "I freed a blue car from the ice."
