Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to read and analyze a short story, and create a drawing based on the story.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil
- Colored pencils or markers
- A short story or book
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have chosen a short story or book that your child is interested in and can read comfortably.
Activities
- Begin by reading the chosen short story or book together. Encourage your child to read aloud or take turns reading with you.
- After reading, discuss the main characters, setting, and plot of the story. Ask your child to share their thoughts and opinions about the story.
- Next, ask your child to choose a favorite scene or moment from the story. Instruct them to use their drawing materials to create a visual representation of that scene.
- Once the drawing is complete, have your child explain their artwork. Encourage them to describe the characters, setting, and any important details they included.
- Finally, display the drawing in a prominent place, such as on a bulletin board or the refrigerator, to celebrate your child's creativity and reading accomplishment.
