Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a drawing you create.
Materials and Prep
- Pencil
- Blank paper
- Colored pencils or markers
Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a clear space to work on and gather all the materials listed above.
Activities
- Choose a subject for your drawing. It can be anything you like, such as an animal, a landscape, or a favorite object.
- Using your pencil, sketch the outline of your drawing on the blank paper.
- Once you are satisfied with the outline, start adding details and shading using colored pencils or markers.
- After completing your drawing, take a few moments to observe it closely.
- Now, imagine you are describing your drawing to a friend who cannot see it. Write a descriptive paragraph using words to paint a picture of your drawing.
- Remember to include details about the colors, shapes, and any special features or elements in your drawing.
- Read your paragraph aloud to yourself or someone else, and make any necessary revisions or additions.
- Once you are satisfied with your descriptive paragraph, share it with someone or display it with your drawing.
Third Grade Talking Points
- "When we write a descriptive paragraph, we use words to paint a picture in someone's mind."
- "Just like an artist uses colors and shapes to create a drawing, we use words to create images in writing."
- "Think about what you want to draw and how you can describe it using words. What colors will you use? What shapes or lines will you include?"
- "Remember to use adjectives, which are words that describe nouns, to make your writing more interesting."
- "Try to make your reader feel like they are looking at your drawing, even if they can't see it."
- "Reading your paragraph aloud helps you identify any parts that may need improvement or more detail."
- "Sharing your writing with others allows them to appreciate your artwork even without seeing it."
