Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencil
- Printed pictures of picnic-related items (e.g., food, blanket, basket)
- Access to online Spanish-English dictionary (optional)
Activities
-
Introduce the concept of a community picnic by showing the student pictures of people having a picnic in a park.
Ask the student questions like:
- What do you see in the pictures?
- What do you think people do at a picnic?
-
Teach the student basic Spanish vocabulary related to a picnic. Write the following words on the board:
- Comida (food)
- Manta (blanket)
- Cesta (basket)
Read the words aloud and ask the student to repeat after you. Practice pronouncing each word correctly.
-
Use the pictures of picnic-related items and ask the student to match each picture with the corresponding Spanish word. This can be done as a simple matching activity or as a memory game.
-
Encourage the student to use the new vocabulary in sentences. For example, ask the student to create a sentence like:
"Me gusta comer la comida en la manta del picnic" (I like to eat the food on the picnic blanket).
