Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to combine your interest in drawing with physical activity by engaging in fun exercises that promote coordination and creativity.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencils or crayons
- A clear space to move around
No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Warm-up Drawing: Begin by doing a quick warm-up drawing. Choose a subject you enjoy drawing and spend a few minutes sketching it. This will help loosen up your hand and get your creative juices flowing.
- Drawing Relay: Set up a drawing relay race. Place a piece of paper and a pencil at one end of the room and have another piece of paper at the opposite end. Start by doing a physical activity, such as jumping jacks or running in place, and then run to the drawing station. Quickly draw a simple object or shape, then run back to the starting point and tag the next person to continue the relay. The goal is to complete the drawing as a team before the time runs out.
- Active Art Stations: Set up different stations around the room with various drawing activities. For example, have a station where you need to draw while balancing on one leg, another station where you draw while doing squats, and another station where you draw while hopping on one foot. Spend a few minutes at each station, rotating through them and challenging yourself to complete the drawings while engaging in the physical activity.
- Cool Down Drawing: Finish the lesson with a cool-down drawing. Sit down, take a few deep breaths, and draw something that represents how you feel after the physical activity. It can be an abstract drawing or something more concrete, like a smiley face or a peaceful scene.
