Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to apply arithmetic skills to solve fun animal-related math problems.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
-
Activity 1: Animal Counting
Choose a favorite animal and draw a picture of it on a piece of paper. Count how many legs your animal has and write the number next to the drawing. Repeat this activity with two other animals.
-
Activity 2: Animal Addition
Think of two different animals and write down how many legs each animal has. Add the two numbers together to find the total number of legs. For example, if one animal has 4 legs and another animal has 2 legs, the total would be 6 legs.
-
Activity 3: Animal Subtraction
Choose one animal and write down how many legs it has. Then, imagine that the animal lost some legs. Subtract a number from the original number of legs and write down the new number. For instance, if the animal had 6 legs and lost 2 legs, the new number would be 4 legs.
