Objective

By the end of this lesson, the Ninth-grade homeschool student will be able to create a digital drawing using basic techniques and tools.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or tablet with digital drawing software installed
  • A graphics tablet or a stylus for precise drawing
  • An internet connection (for research or reference)
  • No prior knowledge or experience required

Activities

  1. Introduction to Digital Drawing:

    Discuss the advantages and possibilities of digital drawing compared to traditional methods. Show examples of digital artwork to inspire the student.

  2. Exploring Digital Drawing Tools:

    Introduce the digital drawing software and its basic tools. Explain the purpose and functionality of each tool, such as brushes, erasers, layers, and color palettes.

  3. Practicing Basic Techniques:

    Guide the student through exercises to practice basic techniques, such as lines, shapes, shading, and blending. Encourage experimentation and creativity.

  4. Creating a Digital Drawing:

    Provide a simple prompt or theme for the student to create their own digital drawing. Encourage them to apply the techniques learned and express their creativity.

  5. Sharing and Reflecting:

    Allow the student to share their digital drawing with the teacher or a peer. Discuss the process, challenges faced, and improvements they can make in their future artwork.
