Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will understand the skeletal system and how it functions as a construction building structure in our bodies.

  • Prior knowledge of basic human anatomy is helpful but not required.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing the concept of a construction building structure with the student. Ask them to think about what makes a building strong and sturdy.

    Guide them to understand that a solid framework or structure is essential for stability.

  2. Introduce the skeletal system as the construction building structure of our bodies.

    Explain that bones provide support, protect our organs, and help us move.

  3. Engage the student in a hands-on activity where they can explore the strength and flexibility of bones.

    Provide a few chicken bones (cleaned and dried) or plastic straws and playdough.

    Ask the student to use the bones or straws to build a structure using the playdough as the ground.

    Encourage them to experiment with different shapes and arrangements to see which structure is the strongest.

  4. Discuss the importance of a healthy diet and exercise for maintaining strong bones.

    Explain that calcium-rich foods like milk, cheese, and leafy greens help keep our bones strong.

    Encourage the student to engage in activities like running, jumping, and playing sports to keep their bones healthy.
