Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create a fun and educational Immune Monopoly game that teaches about the immune system and its components.

Materials and Prep

  • Blank board game template (can be printed or drawn)
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Index cards or small pieces of paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Access to a computer or books for research

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a basic understanding of the immune system and its components. You can use the internet or books to gather information.

Activities

  1. Research: Spend some time researching the immune system and its components. Learn about white blood cells, antibodies, and how they work together to fight off infections.
  2. Create the Game Board: Use the blank board game template to draw or design a game board that represents the immune system. Divide it into different sections, such as "Bloodstream," "Lymph Nodes," and "Organs."
  3. Create Game Cards: Cut index cards or small pieces of paper into squares. On each card, write a different scenario or question related to the immune system. For example, "You encountered a virus, lose a turn," or "You found an antibody, move ahead two spaces."
  4. Add Game Pieces: Use colored pencils or markers to draw and cut out game pieces that represent different immune system components. For example, you can create white blood cell tokens or antibody tokens.
  5. Assemble the Game: Glue or tape the game board onto a sturdy surface. Place the game cards in a pile and the game pieces near the board.
  6. Play the Game: Invite a family member or friend to play the Immune Monopoly game with you. Take turns rolling the dice and moving your game piece along the board. Follow the instructions on the game cards and learn more about the immune system as you play.

Third Grade Talking Points

  • "White blood cells are the main heroes of the immune system. They fight off germs and help us get better when we're sick."
  • "Antibodies are like tiny soldiers that help white blood cells recognize and destroy germs. They're like a secret code that tells the immune system who the bad guys are."
  • "Our body has different parts where the immune system works, like the bloodstream, lymph nodes, and organs. They all play an important role in keeping us healthy."
  • "By playing the Immune Monopoly game, we can learn more about how the immune system works and have fun at the same time."
