Activities
- Start by discussing different community helpers and their roles. Show pictures or read books about firefighters, police officers, doctors, nurses, teachers, etc. Ask the student to share what they know about these helpers and why they are important.
- Brainstorm a list of ways we can be helpful in our community. Write down the ideas on the whiteboard or paper. Encourage the student to think of small acts of kindness like picking up trash, helping a neighbor, or being polite to others.
- Explain that government and citizenship are also important for community helpfulness. Discuss how the government creates rules and laws to keep our community safe and organized. Emphasize that being a good citizen means following these rules and laws.
- Engage the student in a coloring activity related to community helpers. Provide coloring pages of different community helpers and ask the student to color them while discussing the importance of their roles in the community.
