Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to spell the words "ten," "zip," "job," "left," "land," "next," "jump," "name," "heat," "nine," "soap," "wave," "and," "you," and "I" correctly in preparation for your spelling test.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil

No additional preparation is needed for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Word Hunt: Write each of the spelling words on separate pieces of paper and hide them around the room. Search for the words and once you find one, read it aloud and spell it out loud to practice.
  2. Rainbow Writing: Choose three different colored pencils or crayons. Write each spelling word three times, using a different color for each repetition. This will help you remember the correct letter sequence.
  3. Spelling Bee: Ask a family member or friend to give you a mini spelling bee. Have them say each word from your list, and you spell it out loud. Keep track of how many words you spell correctly and challenge yourself to improve each time you play!
  4. Memory Game: Create a set of word cards by writing each spelling word on a separate index card or piece of paper. Shuffle the cards and lay them face down. Flip two cards at a time, trying to match the word with its correct spelling. This game will reinforce your memory of the words.
