No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Warm-up exercise: Start with some quick gesture drawings. Set a timer for 5 minutes and draw a series of simple shapes or objects, focusing on capturing the basic form and movement.
- Value study: Choose an object with interesting light and shadow. Using the 2B pencil, create a value scale from light to dark, and then apply shading to the object, paying attention to the different tones and highlights.
- Still life drawing: Set up a composition of objects with varying shapes and textures. Begin by sketching the basic shapes lightly with an HB pencil, and then refine the details and add shading using the 4B pencil.
- Self-portrait: Using a mirror or a reference photo, attempt a self-portrait. Start with basic proportions and gradually add details. Experiment with different techniques and shading to capture your likeness.
