Objective
By the end of this lesson, the preschool student will be able to engage in physical activities that promote early childhood development.
Materials and Prep
- Open space for movement
- Soft balls or bean bags
- Cones or markers for boundaries
- Music player and upbeat music
Activities
-
Warm-up: Animal Movements
Encourage the student to imitate different animal movements such as crawling like a bear, hopping like a bunny, wiggling like a snake, and stretching like a cat. Play some fun music to make it more engaging.
-
Target Practice: Throw and Catch
Set up a target area using cones or markers. Have the student practice throwing soft balls or bean bags towards the target and try to catch them. Start with a close distance and gradually increase the challenge by moving farther away.
-
Obstacle Course: Balancing and Jumping
Create an obstacle course using pillows, cushions, or other safe objects. Include activities like balancing on a beam (a straight line on the floor), jumping over small obstacles, and crawling under a makeshift tunnel. Time the student and encourage them to complete the course faster each time.
-
Cool Down: Stretching and Breathing
Guide the student through gentle stretching exercises, such as touching toes, reaching for the sky, and twisting side to side. Encourage deep breathing and relaxation to cool down after the activities.
