Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and identify the sounds of various letters of the alphabet and understand how they are used to form words.
Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards or printouts of the letters of the alphabet - Paper and crayons - A small whiteboard and marker - Familiarity with the phonetic sounds of the letters of the alphabet
Activities
1. Alphabet Sound Matching: Show the student an alphabet flashcard and ask them to make the sound of the letter. Encourage them to think of words that start with that letter sound. 2. Letter Tracing: Have the student practice tracing the letters of the alphabet on paper using crayons. 3. Word Formation: Use the whiteboard to write down simple words and ask the student to identify the beginning sound of each word.

- "Today, we are going to learn about the sounds that letters make. Let's start with the letter A. Can you make the 'ah' sound like in 'apple'?"
- "Now, let's try tracing the letter A. Start at the top and go down. Then go back to the top and make a slant. Good job!"
