Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand and use basic Spanish phrases, as well as navigate Spanish YouTube videos.

Materials and Prep

  • A computer or device with internet access
  • Pen and paper for note-taking
  • Optional: Spanish-English dictionary or online translation tool

No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.

Activities

  1. Watch a Spanish YouTube video: Select a popular Spanish YouTube video with subtitles or captions. Encourage the student to watch the video with the subtitles on and try to identify familiar words or phrases. After watching, discuss the content of the video together.
  2. Learn basic greetings: Introduce common Spanish greetings such as "Hola" (Hello), "Buenos días" (Good morning), "Buenas tardes" (Good afternoon), and "Adiós" (Goodbye). Practice saying these greetings aloud and have the student write them down.
  3. Practice pronunciation: Use online resources or apps to find audio recordings of Spanish words or phrases. Have the student listen to the recordings and repeat them aloud, focusing on correct pronunciation.
  4. Create a vocabulary list: Ask the student to make a list of 10 Spanish words or phrases they would like to learn based on their interests. Encourage them to use YouTube videos or other online resources to find the translations and pronunciations of these words.
  5. Watch a Spanish tutorial video: Choose a tutorial video in Spanish related to a topic the student is interested in (e.g., cooking, drawing, gaming). Have the student watch the video and try to follow along with the instructions in Spanish. Encourage them to pause and rewind the video as needed.
