Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of the water cycle and create a drawing illustrating the different stages of the water cycle.
Materials and Prep
Materials needed: white paper, pencils, and crayons.
Prep: None.
Activities
1. Begin by discussing the water cycle with the student, explaining the stages of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.
2. Have the student draw a simple landscape on the paper, including a body of water, clouds, and the sun.
3. Encourage the student to illustrate the water cycle stages in their drawing, using arrows or labels to show the movement of water through the cycle.
4. Once the drawing is complete, have the student use crayons to color their illustration, emphasizing the different elements of the water cycle.
First Grade Talking Points
- Water can turn into a gas called water vapor when it gets warm. Can you draw some water turning into vapor?
- When the water vapor cools down, it turns back into water droplets and forms clouds. Can you draw some clouds in the sky?
- When the clouds get heavy, the water droplets fall back to the ground as rain, snow, or hail. Can you draw some rain falling from the clouds?
