Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to understand the water cycle and how rain is formed.
Materials and Prep
You will need a clear jar, water, ice, and a small plate. Make sure to have a basic understanding of the water cycle.
Activities
1. Fill the jar with water and place the plate on top. Add some ice on the plate. Watch as water droplets form on the plate, just like how rain forms in the clouds.
2. Discuss the different types of precipitation and how rain is important for plants, animals, and people.
First Grade Talking Points
- "Water from rivers, lakes, and oceans evaporates into the sky and forms clouds. These clouds hold water droplets that eventually fall back to the ground as rain."
- "Rain helps plants grow and gives us water to drink. It also fills up our rivers and lakes."
- "When it rains, we can see and hear the water falling from the sky. It's important to have rain, but too much can cause floods."
